Frameless Glass Doors help keep the weather out

Bifolding doors, folding doors or slide and turn doors are large doors connected together and often comprise many door leaves.

Bifolding doors are completely different in their construction to a sliding door, French door or a window. The key difference is that they comprise far more elements unlike smaller doors that are one or two leaves.

A full frame bifolding door relies on the rebates and other elements on it’s frame to keep the doors weather resistant.

How are frameless glass doors weather resistant?

With up to 8 doors all connected together in a frameless glass format that doesn’t use aluminium framing, how do they keep the wind and rain at bay?

Our doors are independently tested to BS6375 2009.  This is the standard that works to improve the weather performance of windows and doors.

This standard was written to provide us, as designers and manufacturers of doors, an appropriate level of weather resistance for the UK.

It is well known that strong wind places a load on the glass and on the door.  This load effectively pushes the door back away from it’s seals.  Simulated tests are carried out based upon various locations in the UK.  After all, some areas get worse weather than others.  The Standard must take into account all types of locations.

Coastal locations are of course subjected to more severe weather.  The same goes for areas on high ground that get much more wind.  All these factors and more are taken into account when testing doors.

Frameless Glass Curtains are tested to BS6375-2009 and have passed.

Glass doors in coastal area where the weather is an important factor

Our doors are tested to BS6375.  These tests have various parts to them that comprise:

Part 1 which classifies  weather tightness  and gives information about test pressure levels for air permeability, watertightness and wind resistance for our doors.

Part 2 gives standards and guidance about the operation and strength characteristics for manually operated doors in their finished condition.

You can view our BS6375 certificate here.

Just like our security testing to PAS 24, they’re carried out by Independent Testing Institutes that are approved. Our finished products are submitted to tests that expose our frameless glass doors to all sorts of weather conditions, wind loads, wind speeds, air tests and much more besides.  Only when they’ve passed are we awarded the standard.

This is important because we’ve installed our doors all over the UK.  From properties on the South Coast right up to hand made homes in Scotland and even cruise liners. All these have had our doors installed.  Therefore our doors are weather tested not for an individual application but for virtually all of them.

So despite their frameless appearance, quality glass units and lack of frames where the doors meet, you are getting some of the most weather resistant doors you can buy.  These will keep your home protected in the winter and open up for you to enjoy your garden in the summer.

We also offer a full range of aluminium windows, bifolding and sliding doors,
and front doors as FGC Bespoke Aluminium.

What our customers say

We are pleased with the service, and the quality of finish so far, I look forward to seeing how they look after a few months. My only issues was the timings and delays, but I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you and indeed have already a few times or use you again.

These frameless glass walls have made a huge difference to our comfort at home. They are installed between our living rooms and conservatory. When open, they allow heat into the living area on a sunny day (reducing our heating bill) and when shut, they keep the cold and noise out. They are also much better than bi-folds because there are no frames when shut and when open, the amount of space taken is minimal. Installation

We have had these doors for several months now and are very pleased with them. Our initial contact with the company was very positive, the structure and operation of the doors clearly explained. The installation was carried out very efficiently with no disruption and the installers were friendly, their work clean and tidy. Our friends have admired these frameless glass curtains and we would happily recommend them to anyone who was interested.

We had 3 sets of doors installed in April. We had searched far and wide for bifold doors and those supplied by FGC were undoubtedly the most striking. We have had favourable comments from visitors and the doors are functioning well. Our dealings with FGC have been excellent and they have attended since the installation to make some adjustments. Although this is an expensive product, it looks stunning and has performed well. FGC worked closely

We are both delighted with the FGC product and have no issues with any future viewings. From our perspective the “outside has truly come inside”, we use the decking on a daily basis as the FGC curtains have transformed the house which I think adds a significant value to the property. The only trouble now is that when we see home improvement programs such as Grand Designs where they suggest using bi-fold doors we end

The installer was excellent. In spite of being let down by another member of the team he got on with with the job in a positive manner. Disruption was kept to a minimum and he cleared and tidied up. He demonstrated how to use the doors, ensured I knew how to operate them and answered any questions before he left. He is a credit to your company. Overall: I am very pleased with my frameless

We are very pleased with the glass curtains, which do what we want them to – separate the house and conservatory, meeting building regs, but as unobtrusively as possible. We were very happy with the service we received and the efficiency of those who fitted the curtains and we would have no hesitation in recommending both yourselves and the product.

We wanted to connect two room – a ‘sun room’ and living room -by replacing a large window with some glass doors. We contacted local suppliers and Googled ‘glass partitions’. Local suppliers weren’t much help, however the Google came up with just what we wanted – frameless glass doors. We contacted Gary for a price. He arranged to come and do a survey the following week – 600 mile round trip – arrived on time.

May I ask you for a review on how we performed? – all very good except that it took a month to get the correct size of glass doors after the wrong sized ones turned up on initial installation – good job it wasn’t winter or might have been having a different conversation. I appreciate this was an error at the factory. In response to my initial query– Paul fitted a locking handle to the

Following the installation of our “double glazed curtains” we would like to say we are delighted with the result. The amount of light now coming into the living room is so different, we are also pleased with the amount of noise they keep out, We are glad we had them double glazed. Paul was a good ambassador for the firm and did an excellent job.
