Replacing uPVC doors with aluminium

Replacing uPVC doors with aluminium is one of the best ways to add more light to your home thanks to the thinner frames found in all aluminium doors.  An installation to take out old PVCu doors and replace with our double glazed frameless door is a great way to illustrate the benefits of aluminium over plastic frames.

Information about replacing uPVC doors with aluminium.

uPVC doors are affordable however they come with limitations.  First of all, you get much thicker frames compared with aluminium.  The frames also have less strength too.  As a result, you often get thicker door hinges and more visible hardware.

When thinking about a home improvement project, getting the most out of your new doors means choosing the material carefully. Replacing uPVC doors with aluminium provides an altogether more modern look in your home as well as other advantages. However, the budget is also a consideration with many home improvement projects.  While PVCu windows and doors typically cost less, our advice is to always get a quote.

Therefore, when replacing uPVC doors with aluminium you get the following immediate benefits.

  • Thinner but stronger frames.
  • Over 200 colours to choose from.
  • More discreet hardware.
  • The same great energy efficiency you expect from new doors or windows.
  • A more modern and altogether better-looking product.

Four compelling reasons to choose aluminium for patio doors.

While modern uPVC systems are slimmer than previous and older generations, these cannot meet the thin sightlines with strength found in aluminium.  However, there are even better reasons to choose aluminium when thinking about new doors for your home.

Bigger doors with less visible frames.

One of the standout features is aluminium doors is you get bigger sizes even on single doors and windows.  uPVC often need additional reinforcement and joining sections when having a door with a side-panel for instance.  As a result, aluminium doors give you wider and taller doors where PVCu doors often need an additional window joined to them.

As well as this, most PVCu doors come restricted to about 850mm wide.  Our doors come at widths up to 12oom  wide, often possible wider too.

Improved sight lines.

On most common PVCu doors sight lines of over 150mm are common. Aluminium French doors give you about 80-100mm and bi folding doors even less. However, the standout reason for choosing our frameless doors is no visible mullions.

Bigger choice of colours.

Aluminium is widely regarded as being the best for colour.  Not only do you get a huge choice but also the option of gloss, satin or matt.  We can even create our doors with a different colour inside and out.  Finally, there are even the latest metallic colours for the ultimate in modern looking doors.

Less thermal expansion.

uPVC expands about two and a half times more than aluminium.  Therefore, if your new patio doors are on a south facing or other sunny elevation, think about aluminium.  Not only does aluminium expand far less, but you will also find aluminium doors much more reliable in use compared to PVCu on a sunny day.

What our customers say

A heartfelt thank you from us. We knew we wanted something a bit special to set off our extension, which has been absolutely essential in making our new home work for the family. We scoured the internet for something that would allow an uninterupted view of the planned garden but would also allow us to throw back the glass in the summer to bring the garden into the house. As soon as I visited the

As to how we were from initial contact (were we polite)? Yes a bit abrupt especially the on site visit. Arranging installation (were we on time and on schedule) Excellent. Were we clean and tidy? Good but the windows were left uncleaned so difficult to check for scratches. VG at organising a company to deal with the scratches + v good service from scratch man. And finally are you pleased with our doors (would you

A brief note to thank you for your services in supplying two sets of doors and two fixed panels. From the start of contact with your company you have been very professional and communication has been excellent. The panels now installed look amazing and appearance when compared with usual bi folds or other types of door has to be seen. There is no comparison! The product is expensive but price should not be compared with

Regarding your service I would like to make the following comments Web site, initial contact and service My wife saw a product similar to FGC Glass Curtains whilst on holiday. After undertaking a lot of searching on the internet we came across FGC. FGC offered a product we could not find anywhere else, i.e. a true frameless glass product, no side borders, only the top and bottom running rails. The product looked as if you

I contacted FGC to try and marry up a few weather strips to replace old one’s which I have already fitted on glass curtains. The glass curtains were not supplied by FGC and the company who supplied them, when asked for replacement weather strips just said “we no longer have these in stock and not sure if we can still get them”. FGC requested pictures of the seals and sent some samples free of charge

Thank you again for the doors, we’re very happy with them and, once the renderer has finished (hopefully tomorrow), we’re really looking forward to removing the plastic protection so we can see through them properly. Mr B,

These frameless glass walls have made a huge difference to our comfort at home. They are installed between our living rooms and conservatory. When open, they allow heat into the living area on a sunny day (reducing our heating bill) and when shut, they keep the cold and noise out. They are also much better than bi-folds because there are no frames when shut and when open, the amount of space taken is minimal. Installation

We are delighted with the glass doors and so grateful that completion was before Christmas! We would be happy for anyone to come and see the installation and would recommend your company as polite, efficient and totally professional.

Glass Curtains have caused a talking point up and down the village but nobody has knocked on the door yet. We are very pleased with them and thank your teams for their timing and workmanship
